Fantas Mobu mourned by public sector professionals

FantasMobu.jpgThe passing of Fantas Mobu is being felt widely among professionals in the public sector and by members of the State Owned Enterprises Procurement Forum (SOEPF), of which Mr Mobu was President.

“We are at a loss for words. We knew Fantas was unwell, but had hoped he was going to pull through,” said SOEPF’s Chief Executive Officer Kamogelo Mampane.

Remembering Karen van Vuuren, a pioneering Procurement Professional

KarenVanVuuren.jpgThe recent passing of Karen van Vuuren is being widely felt among the supply chain fraternity.

Karen will be remembered by many for the important, pioneering work she did in establishing the procurement fraternity as a profession.

In addition to her tireless and distinguished contributions to the procurement fraternity, she held key leadership positions in industry, such as being Chief Procurement Officer of Absa, Transnet and the Gauteng Shared Service Centre.

She was VP of Supply Chain Strategy and Excellence for Anglo Gold Ashanti and Chairman of the Board of Management for the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply (CIPS) when she passed away last week after a long illness.

CPOs with board ambitions must aim to become Chief Supply Chain Officers

DrBoateng.jpg

Without doubt, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and other C-Suite organisational leaders (Chief Financial, Operating, Information, Marketing Officers) recognise the strategic value in procurement. However, the global dilemma these decision-makers face is whether current Chief Procurement Officers (CPOs) are equipped with the right strategic and board-level skills to officially be admitted into their high-level discussion forums.

Rather than officially appointing CPOs to the C-Suite of organisational leaders, it is increasingly becoming the norm for companies to appoint Chief Supply Chain Officers (CSCOs) with some understanding of procurement and supply chain management, says SmartProcurement Editorial Board Member Dr Douglas Boateng.

CPOs still not seen as part of the exco group of organizational heads

Place_on_the_board.jpgA survey of formal Chief Procurement Officer (CPO) representation at executive committee (exco) level in state-owned or government-controlled enterprises; consulting and audit organizations; and the top 100 listed-corporations revealed some very startling findings.

In the second of four articles on the state of procurement, Dr Douglas Boateng shares his concerns in this month's SmartProcurement.

Who is to blame for Procurement's poor representation at executive level?

DouglasBoateng.jpgAlmost twenty five years on, CEOs, Government officials and policy makers are still skeptical about procurement’s formal representation on the executive and senior policy development committees

In the first of four articles, Dr Douglas Boateng, SmartProcurement Editorial Board Member and CIPS Fellow, asks who is to blame for this?

CIPS Fellow intends to shake-up the profession

RonaldMlalaziCIPSFellow.JPGRonald Mlalazi, Education Manager at Commerce Edge Academy, has become a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS). There are only eight people in Southern Africa who have reached this level of professional recognition.

Ronald chatted to SmartProcurement about the path he followed earning his FCIPS a how he intends putting Procurement and Supply Chain Management on the corporate map.
