Bidders and buyers connect

APMP.JPGThe South African chapter of the Association of Proposal Management Professionals (APMP) has entered into an affiliation agreement with SmartProcurement, a division of Commerce Edge, to grow the industry by working together.

The APMP is a global organisation formed 22 years go to advance the arts, sciences, and technology of new business acquisition and to promote the professionalism of those engaged in those pursuits. It offers the world’s first Professional Accreditation Program for those working in a bid and proposal environment. This uses a process of examination and competency-based assessment, which is consistent and measured against world best practice standards.

SmartProcurement has a nine-year history as an online communications and media channel. Focusing on procurement and supply management (P&SM) it reached more than 2 500 different departments and 23 000 personnel. Its readers generally make or influence the procurement and purchasing decisions within their organisations, mostly medium to large organisations in the private and public sectors.

Commenting on the collaboration, APMP chair, Sandy Pullinger, said it was a coup for the organisation. “The APMP in South Africa is a relatively young organisation having been formed less than two years ago. And, while it is growing at a commendable pace, its committee wanted to accelerate this and boost its penetration into the local market.

“Our collaboration with SmartProcurement, a thoroughly professional and well-established authority and channel into the industry, will prove a shot in the arm for the APMP, and we are delighted to be working alongside it in a bid to enhance our profession.

In terms of the agreement reached between the two organisations, Smart Procurement will provide information and intelligence relating to the procurement and tenders landscape in Africa to the APMP as well as publish details of all relevant APMP events and news items in its newsletters and on www.smartprocurement.co.za.

The APMP will provide a platform for SmartProcurement to access APMP members through events and newsletters and endorse Smart Procurement’s annual event, ‘Smart Procurement World’. Both organisations will also offer discounts on certain events like workshops and conferences to each other’s members, and will exchange web site links.

“At the same time, we are also certain SmartProcurement will benefit from links to our global organisation, and will find itself contributing even more to its readers’ daily work-orientated tasks as well as to their professional and career development.”
