PetraRees1.jpgOnline trading platfrom, the Business World, is listing more than 100 business contracts a day.

Aimed at developing small suppliers and linking them with business opportunities, Business World has vetted and registered more than 10 000 companies.

“Registrer on the portal at no cost until the end of 2016,” says Petra Rees, Managing Director of Lean Enterprise Acceleration Programmes (LEAP), which owns and manages the portal.

“The platform also offers educational tools, access to funding and more. It is a tool that could make a difference to the corporate business and SMMEs environment”, says Rees.

While procurement departments from the public and private sectors struggle to find business-ready and competent SMMEs with a good track record and the right credentials, SMMEs struggle to access markets, develop relationships with customers, are short of management skills and lack appropriate technology and products capacity.

By linking procurement businesses with SMEs Business World seeks to close the gap.

“Enterprise and supplier development, introduced predominantly by BEE legislation, has been one of the most positive outcomes in building a more sustainable and transformed economy, explained Rees.

Empowering black businesses, in particular SMMEs, is a key focus of the Enterprise & Supplier Development Expo 2016.

As a proud Expo partner, LEAP is committed to helping transform and grow the South African economy through innovative tools such as the Business World portal.

The Expo, co-hosted at Smart Procurement World, is the perfect platform to expose businesses to a solution proven in the market place”, says Rees.

One of the successful early adopters of the Business World platform has been the Mining Sector, with South32’s project Intsika. Companies in the communities that the mine operates in can access the portal at no cost and connect with other business in the area. This further stimulates the microeconomic climate in the regions, leading to sustainability beyond the mine’s lifespan.
